SIMI VALLEY : Workers Pitch In for Slain Officer’s Family
More than 100 Simi Valley municipal employees have donated a total of $19,200 in vacation and sick pay toward a trust fund set up for the family of slain Simi Valley Police Officer Michael F. Clark, officials said Wednesday.
The donation raises the amount in the trust fund to more than $90,000, said Assistant City Manager Laura Herron.
The fund was established for Clark’s wife, Jenifer, and infant son, Bayley, after the officer was killed in a gunfight with a disturbed man on Aug. 4.
Residents, community groups, police agencies from across the state and city employees have all contributed to the Michael Frederick Clark Trust Fund.
Herron said 116 city employees had donated a total of 1,068 hours of personal leave pay to Clark’s family. Although a majority of the employees had signed up for the donation by last week, the total monetary amount was not calculated until Wednesday.
