San Bernardino Jail Escapee Arrested by Inglewood Police
Inglewood police have arrested a San Bernardino County jail escapee after being called to a hotel to investigate a suspicious person.
Anthony Lamont Caldwell, 31, was awaiting trial in the 1993 murder, rape and robbery of a Fontana woman when he and four other inmates escaped through a visiting area window at the San Bernardino Central Detention Center on Aug. 5, the sheriff’s office in that county reported.
Inglewood police found Caldwell in a West Century Boulevard hotel room with Shanta La Shelle Kennedy, of Fontana, when they arrested him at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Kennedy, 26, was later booked on suspicion of harboring a fugitive and taken to the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga with Caldwell. Her bail has been set at $100,000.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s spokeswoman Toni Broten said two of the five fugitives were captured within one week of the escape. The other two escapees remain at large.
