DANA POINT : Council OKs Plans for Downtown Renewal
After six years of planning, the City Council is ready to begin its Town Center beautification project by planting 500 trees.
“It’s time to stop planning and start planting,†Councilman Harold R. Kaufman said this week.
The council unanimously approved conceptual plans for the project, which calls for hundreds of new trees in the section of Town Center bordered by Pacific Coast Highway and Del Prado Avenue. The city has budgeted $500,000 for the project, which could cost as much as $750,000, said Mort August, director of public works.
Improvements to sidewalks and the installation of 5-foot iron grates for each tree are part of the project, which the city hopes will revitalize Town Center by attracting more businesses, shoppers and tourists.
The entire project will take as long as 15 years and cost as much as $10 million, August said.
