LAGUNA HILLS : Deputy Rescued From Car After Fiery Crash Is Reported Improving

The sheriff’s deputy who was rescued after a fiery crash on El Toro Road this week was moved out of a hospital intensive care unit Thursday, and his condition was upgraded from serious to good, authorities said.
Christopher Thompson of Oceanside suffered burns, a broken arm, a broken leg and internal injuries early Wednesday when he lost control of his patrol car and crashed into a tree on the road’s median strip, police said. Two passing motorists who managed to pull him from the car before it was engulfed in flames were credited with saving his life.
“He has moved to a regular room and he has started the mending process,” said Capt. Bob Kemmis of the Sheriff’s Department. Thompson is recuperating at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo.
Kemmis said the cause of the crash is still undetermined and is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
