VENTURA : Sheridan Way Will Start Uniform Policy

Students may be wearing uniforms when school starts today at Sheridan Way elementary school, the first Ventura Unified School District institution to approve a uniform policy.

Sheridan Way and six other year-round schools in Ventura start instruction today.

Wearing the navy blue and white uniforms will be voluntary, but 80% of Sheridan Way parents surveyed by the school support them.

The school is instituting the voluntary uniform policy to eliminate social pressure and to deter gang rivalries, school officials have said.

The Sheridan Way uniform consists of navy blue slacks, jumpers, shorts or skirts and white cotton shirts with collars.

Other year-round schools that begin instruction today are Arnaz, E. P. Foster, Mound and Oak View elementary schools and De Anza Middle School.
