Taiwan’s Trade Surplus Narrows: Taiwan’s exports totaled $53 billion in the first six months of 1995, up 22.7% from the same period last year, but the nation’s trade surplus narrowed, the Economics Ministry reported. Imports amounted to $51 billion, up 25.3%, bringing Taiwan’s trade surplus for the period to $2 billion, a 20% drop, it said. Taiwan’s exports to China, conducted through Hong Kong because Taiwan bans shipping links with the mainland, accounted for about 20% of the exports, the ministry said.
