Re “Smoke and the Small Theater: The Audience Is Sniffing” (Counterpunch, July 10): I was sitting front row in a small theater. Onstage, Forceful Character A asked Compliant Character B, “Mind if I smoke?” Spontaneously, I shrieked vehemently, “ Yes !”
Character A glared fiercely at me. There was no smoking onstage throughout the play! Ensuing dialogue lost none of its impact.
