SOLIMAR BEACH : Motorist Killed, 2 Hurt in Freeway Accident
A traffic accident on the Ventura Freeway near Solimar Beach early Saturday left a Ventura man dead and a Simi Valley couple injured, California Highway Patrol officials said.
John Barboza, 84, of Ventura was killed after swerving his 1990 Geo Metro across three lanes of traffic on the northbound Ventura Freeway and being broadsided by another car about 7:45 a.m., officials said. Authorities said they did not know what caused Barboza to swerve.
Philip and Priscilla Rini’s 1991 Honda smashed into Barboza’s car when he turned suddenly into their lane, officials said. Both sustained minor injuries.
Barboza was pronounced dead at Ventura County Medical Center at 10 a.m., Coroner Mitch Breese said.
