Motorcyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run
SYLMAR — A 20-year-old Newhall resident was killed early Saturday on the San Diego Freeway when his motorcycle was rear-ended by a black Nissan Pathfinder whose driver fled the scene, officials said.
The victim, whose identity was not released pending notification of relatives, was northbound near the transition to the Golden State Freeway about 12:15 a.m. when he was struck. He was traveling about 60 m.p.h. and the Pathfinder was speeding at about 80 m.p.h., California Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Bernard said.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at 12:51 a.m. at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Bernard said. The Pathfinder did not stop, and the driver was still being sought late Saturday, authorities said.
