Shameful Voter Apathy in June 6 City Election
- Share via
I often wondered what would happen if they held an election and no one came.
Well it almost happened.
I spent June 6 being an inspector at the municipal election.
The payroll for running our polling place was $170 and could have been $215. This only includes rent for the polling place and personnel. Multiplying this by the thousands of precincts and adding in all the additional costs, you can see just how expensive an election is.
The precinct I worked in has in the past had double the citywide turnout. It has 896 registered voters.
There were 89 absentee ballots requested and mailed.
Of the 807 people who were eligible to come to the polls and vote in person during the 13 hours the polls were open, only 76 did.
Shame on us!
