Frame Club Offers a Square Deal : The Sun Valley store cuts the middleman out of the picture when it comes to mounting posters or artwork.

Does it seem to you as if there are more and more frame stores? We keep checking them out and more keep popping up. What you should know, however, is that very few of them do their own work, sending their customers’ pieces out, which of course means that you end up with a steeper tab.

It’s wise to deal only with framers who do the work on the premises, and one such operation is The Frame Club, a fairly recent entry into the frame game and an offshoot of Plexz-Arts, a company dealing with custom plexiglass framing.

The price-buster--designed as a promotional tool--is their poster framing offer (24 by 36 inches) of $29.95 with a choice of 50 colors in a quality aluminum molding. With glass and ready to hang, this is one of the lowest prices we’ve run across for quality work. If the poster requires vacuum-mounting, add $5.

Some of their already-framed prints or posters are unbelievably priced. Two 8-by-10-inch Mylar framed posters are $5 (for both); the 16-by-20-inch size is $5 each, and one that is 22 by 28 inches is $12.

One facet of The Frame Club that I particularly like is that customers can play around with the frame samples and create their own thing. In case you require artistic assistance, that is available as well.

Custom wood framing is one of their specialties and the prices are among the best in the San Fernando Valley. One bargain hunter now has all of his frame work done here. One order was for a red-lacquered mahogany frame with black velvet matting that he had priced elsewhere at $250. The Frame Club’s price was half that, or $125.

When a major manufacturer throws open the factory doors to the public, any bargain hunter worth his or her credit card shows up. Such is the case with L. Bates and its first-ever factory sale, extended through this weekend. Nothing is more than $45 on its line of better women’s clothing, which is priced at or below wholesale. Everything is first quality and most is current season. Sizes are 2 to 14, and, in the LBW line for larger women, X to 4X. If you’re into classic design, this is for you.
