Recent Aftershock Upgraded to 5.0
Scientists at Caltech and the U.S. Geological Survey have upgraded the magnitude of Monday’s Northridge earthquake aftershock from 4.9 to 5.0, according to the weekly report of the Southern California Seismographic Network.
The 5.0 measurement means that the early-morning jolt was among the nine largest aftershocks of the magnitude 6.7 temblor, which struck Jan. 17, 1994. Earthquake magnitudes are often updated as more seismographic stations report.
