Northridge Aftershock Upgraded to Magnitude 5.0
- Share via
Scientists at Caltech and the U.S. Geological Survey have upgraded the magnitude of Monday’s Northridge earthquake aftershock to 5.0, according to the weekly report of the Southern California Seismographic Network.
Original estimates placed the magnitude at 4.9.
The 5.0 measurement means that the early morning jolt was one of the nine strongest aftershocks of the magnitude 6.7 earthquake that struck on Jan. 17, 1994.
Quake magnitudes often are updated as more seismographic stations report.
