Raiders’ Move

* Well, finally Al Davis has shown Los Angeles what “Commitment to Excellence†really means. The almighty dollar will always prevail! Had Davis elected to remain an owner and not a “coach,†the Raiders would obviously have had more winning seasons. His tirade with Marcus Allen was a simple “cut my nose off to spite my face.†His firing of Art Shell because the team didn’t win was not being able to see the forest for the trees. “Just Win, Baby,†and old Coach Davis will tell you how to do it. If he had stopped meddling with the soup, it would have eventually become cooked.

He says that Los Angeles never did support the team. If Los Angeles didn’t support the team, why aren’t the Raiders going the way of Orange County? What it really was was, “If you can’t play the game my way, I’ll take my toys and go home!â€

So what will happen in Oakland, Al, if you don’t get your way? Will the team become the Guam Raiders? Try the Sultan of Brunei. He’s got plenty of money. Good riddance!

* Fourteen years ago the city and the Coliseum Commission of Los Angeles “contracted†with Al Davis of the Raiders. Davis delivered; Los Angeles has not. The Raiders will be greatly missed!

Lucky, lucky Oakland.

* A football team leaving Los Angeles for Oakland isn’t news. News would be a football team leaving South Bend for Ann Arbor.

JIM HARRIGAN

* Three cheers for the Raiders moving to Oakland. Los Angeles has one less gang to worry about.
