BUENA PARK : Council Defers Budget Adoption to July 10
The City Council has delayed until July 10 adoption of a budget for the coming fiscal year.
In a 5-0 vote Monday, the council continued appropriations from fiscal 1994-95 until it can resolve some remaining issues at a study session next week.
These issues are proposals to reduce the city’s hotel room tax and paramedic subscription fees, Councilman Arthur C. Brown said Tuesday.
Council members also will consider expenditures for the city’s senior center, transportation, a first-time home buyers program and deficits in some accounts, he said.
Those issues will not have much effect on the $38.4-million budget, City Manager Kevin O’Rourke said. “But we have new council members,” he said, “and we want to make sure they are comfortable with the budget.”
Council members Patsy Marshall and Gerald N. Sigler were elected to their first terms in November.
Finance Director Greg Beaubien said the budget can be, and frequently is, adjusted over the course of the year.
“The budget is a living document,” he said. “You can make changes almost on a meeting-to-meeting basis. It is not a closed process or a done deal.”
The new fiscal year begins July 1.
