Toll Roads a Waste
* In the past two years or so, approximately $2.5 billion in bonds have been issued against Orange County taxpayers to pay for a small segment of the toll roads now being planned or built. This is only the start.
Toll roads, historically, are poorly designed, built and maintenance-wise have been a ghastly joke. The planned toll roads are primarily designed to sell the huge undeveloped areas through which they will go. From a traffic-volume relief standpoint, they start nowhere and end nowhere, benefiting only the Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Jaguar and occasional Grey Poupon aficionados. I suppose it would be high treason to spend that money on educating the young, or, perish the thought, use some of it to ease our bankruptcy.
