First baseman Dave Hollins has been put on the 15-day disabled list because of complications from diabetes, the Philadelphia Phillies announced. Including Thursday night, Hollins has missed three games because of fever and dehydration. Gene Schall will be recalled from Scranton-Wilkes-Barre of the International League.

Chicago Cub shortstop Shawon Dunston was suspended for two games by the National League for instigating a bench-clearing brawl against Colorado last weekend. The players’ association appealed the penalty, which won’t take effect until a hearing is held in New York. . . . Nolan Ryan, baseball’s career leader in strikeouts and no-hitters, will throw out the first pitch at the July 11 All-Star game.
