CRENSHAW : ‘African Americans’ Photo Exhibit Opens
A new photography exhibit, “The African Americans,†opens with a reception today at the Black Gallery fine art photography gallery, 107 Santa Barbara Plaza.
The exhibit showcases the book of the same name, which details the everyday lives of black Americans. Dozens of photographers contributed: Anthony Barboza, Douglas Kirkland, Lester Sloan and Michael Allen Jones, Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe and others.
Subjects range from celebrities such as Denzel Washington and Quincy Jones to local community leaders such as the Rev. Cecil Murray of First A.M.E. Church.
The reception will be from 4 to 7 p.m. The exhibit runs through July 1 in conjunction with a series of works created for the exhibit, “African American Representations of Masculinity.â€
