Carl R. Yocham, a longtime Ojai resident and an avid fisherman, has died. He was 80.

A native of Spiro, Okla., Yocham died Saturday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura after a brief illness.

Yocham moved to Ojai in 1933 with his parents, who were fruit pickers, said his granddaughter, Kimberly Johnson of Ventura. During World War II, he joined the U.S. Army and he retired in 1969 after working for 24 years at the Port Hueneme naval base as a crate packer, she said.

A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, Yocham spent much of his time attending events in both organizations, Johnson said.

Besides spending time with his four granddaughters, Yocham often went fishing at Lake Casitas, Johnson said.

In addition to the granddaughters, he is survived by his wife, Leona Yocham of Ojai, daughter and son-in-law Carol and Walt Johnson of Ventura, and a sister, Ola Keith of Lincoln, Calif.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.
