BRIEFLY : Film: Young Area Writers Sell Scripts
Two young Westside residents have sold their first screenplays and another is in the process of doing so, according to the University of Southern California, where all three recently completed a professional writing program.
Ronnie Christensen, 24, of West Hollywood has sold a script titled “Eden†to Walt Disney Pictures for $750,000, the university announced last week. The story is about the discovery of the Garden of Eden in a submerged volcano in the Arctic Circle.
Venice resident Joshua Richmond, 29, has sold a screenplay to Universal Pictures for $500,000, USC said. That script, titled “From Behind the Sun,†concerns a scientist’s discovery of a superior human species that poses a threat to the world.
Meanwhile, Santa Monica resident Jennifer Cecil, 33, is closing a deal with Davis Entertainment for the production of her script “Cadillac Ranch,†about three sisters who travel through Texas to Cadillac Ranch to find loot left to them by their long-lost father.
The three writers are recent graduates of USC’s Master of Professional Writing Program.
