AMERICAN LEGION ROUNDUP : Three Pitchers Share No-Hitter
Three pitchers combined on a six-inning no-hitter for Central Valley in a 10-0 District 20 victory Wednesday over North Hollywood West at Cleveland High.
Josh Goldberg pitched the first three innings, striking out four and walking two. Mike Schultz pitched the next two and John Bolyard pitched the final inning. Schultz, who struck out three and walked two, picked up the victory.
Antelope Valley South 8, Antelope Valley North 2--Tyler Kincaid took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finished with a three-hitter for Antelope Valley South (1-2). David Nichols had a two-run home run in the first inning for Antelope Valley South.
Newhall/Santa Clarita 4, San Fernando 2--Brad Davidson (1-0) pitched a five-hitter for Newhall (2-0) at Canyon High, striking out five and walking two.
Palmdale 6, Quartz Hill 1--Chris Paxton had a double and pitched three scoreless innings for host Palmdale (1-0). Paxton gave up one hit and had four strikeouts. Sheldon Martin drove in two runs with a triple for Palmdale.
Panorama City 9, Mission Hills 8--John Wilson had two hits and drove in three runs for visiting Panorama City (2-0) in a game at Alemany High that was called after six innings when the sprinklers came on.
Woodland Hills East 5, Van Nuys West 3--Greg Venger stole home in the third inning to score the first run for visiting Woodland Hills East (2-0) at Taft High.
Valley South 4, North Hollywood East 3--Fernando Centeno drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning for Valley South (2-0). Centeno had a solo home run in the first inning. Reliever Taiki Yamaoka retired all nine batters he faced to earn the victory.
Sunland-Tujunga 13, Burbank South 7--Dave Swanson drove in four runs with two hits and Kyle Spielbuehler added four hits and drove in two runs for Sunland-Tujunga (1-0) at Burroughs High.
Sepulveda 6, Encino 5--Josh Purcell had two hits and drove in a run for visiting Sepulveda (2-1). Brian Luderer had two hits and scored two runs for Encino (0-1).
Sun Valley 7, Verdugo Hills 6--Jaime Cerna scored on Paco Hernandez’s fifth-inning grounder to give Sun Valley (1-0) a season-opening victory at Poly High.
