Lela H. Eccles, a former Port Hueneme city clerk, has died at 87.
Mrs. Eccles, who died Sunday, served as city clerk from 1968 to 1976. Before that, she worked as a secretary for Hueneme Elementary School and was active with the Port Hueneme Boys & Girls Club.
“She was always very busy,” said her sister, Ida Roussey. “She loved giving to her community.”
Mrs. Eccles was born in Rocky Ford, Colo., in 1908 and moved with her parents to Ventura County in 1913. She spent her final years in Lewiston, Ida.
She will be buried at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park next to her husband, Ed, and her son, Stanley.
In addition to her sister, Mrs. Eccles is survived by a daughter, Margie Pollard of El Cajon; two brothers, Charles Nunn of Oxnard and Robert Nunn of Ventura; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by James A. Reardon Mortuary.
