CALABASAS : Dinner Planned for New and Old Mayors
The city of Calabasas and the Chamber of Commerce are planning a dinner to welcome Calabasas’ new mayor, Dennis Washburn, and to pay tribute to retiring Mayor Karyn Foley.
Washburn, who helped lead Calabasas’ drive to cityhood, replaced Foley as mayor as part of an annual City Council reorganization in April.
Named the city’s first mayor after Calabasas incorporated in 1991, Washburn had been vice president of the Calabasas Cityhood Committee from 1985 to 1991.
Comedians Pat McCormick and Jack Riley will provide the entertainment for the dinner. McCormick has written for Johnny Carson, Danny Kaye, Red Skelton, Lucille Ball, Dick Van Dyke, Danny Thomas, Steve Martin and Bette Midler, among others.
McCormick played a neurotic patient on “The Bob Newhart Show†and has appeared in Mel Brooks’ “Silent Movie,†“High Anxiety†and “History of the World Part I.â€
The dinner will be at 7 p.m. June 12 at the Calabasas Inn. Cocktails will be at 6. Cost is $35 per person. Reservations: 222-5680.
