America Online Inc. to Buy Two Software Firms: The Vienna, Va.-based company said it agreed to buy two multimedia and Internet publishing and production companies, Wais Inc. and Medior Inc., in stock transactions worth a total of about $46 million. The company said it will buy Wais for about 400,000 shares and Medior for about 825,000 shares and expects both deals to be completed by May 31. Closely held Medior, based in San Mateo, Calif., has developed an interactive shopping service based on a CD-ROM. San Francisco-based Wais Inc. is a leader in publishing on the Internet, America Online said. America Online stock closed up $1.50 at $37.25.
