Five O.C. Firms Win Awards for Innovative Technology

IRVINE — Five Orange County companies won awards for innovative technology products from the American Electronics Assn. at a ceremony Thursday evening.
The winners were picked by a committee of technology experts drawn from the trade group’s Orange County Council, and were given their awards at an event at the Sutton Place Hotel in Newport Beach.
The winners:
* Rockwell International’s Digital Communications Division of Newport Beach, for a high-speed modem that allows users to transmit and receive data between computers more quickly.
* Virgin Interactive Entertainment of Irvine, for an interactive computer game called the Daedulus Encounter, which uses high-quality video images.
* Sync Research of Irvine, which entered a system allowing information managers to combine network computer systems without making them more difficult to manage or maintain.
* Silicon Systems Inc. of Tustin, for products that enable hard disk drives to store more information.
* Subscriber Computing Inc. of Laguna Hills, for a product allowing cellular telephone companies to combat fraud by automatically identifying fraudulent phone calls.
