SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Oven Hood Ignited Fire at Tortilla Factory
- Share via
County fire officials have concluded that a fire last week in a tortilla factory started when an oven hood ignited a wall.
The May 3 fire destroyed most of a cluster of businesses in a commercial center.
Emmy Day, spokeswoman for the Orange County Fire Authority, said the damage estimate from the accidental blaze, initially pegged at $2 million, has been revised to $1 million.
The fire broke out about 6:40 a.m. in El Molino de Oro, which is part of a 6,000-square-foot wing of Plaza del Obispo II on Paseo Mercado de Capistrano.
