Robert E. Riley, a member of the Downey Unified School District board for 14 years, resigned Wednesday.
Riley, who represented District 1 covering the northwest area of the city, said he relinquished his seat because he is moving to La Mirada later this month.
The position will remain vacant until November when an election will be held to fill the remainder of his term. Four other seats on the seven-member board will also be on the November ballot, Supt. Edward Sussman said.
