Argentine Export Boom: Just months after teetering on the edge of financial crisis, Argentina is undergoing an export boom, Economy Minister Domingo Cavallo said. According to preliminary figures, Argentina had a $300-million trade surplus in April and a $40-million surplus in March, Cavallo said. This marks a dramatic turnaround for Argentina, whose hunger for exports left it with a $5.8-billion deficit in 1994. Much of this year’s improved export performance came from a surge in agricultural and meat sales, Cavallo said. In January and February, Argentina’s trade deficit fell 52.3% compared to the same months in 1994.
