Eric E. Burgess of Ventura, who served in the British armed forces and later rose to office in the Ventura Elks Lodge, has died. He was 66.
Born in Bollington, England, Burgess served in Egypt, the Far East and what was then Palestine during the 1940s and 1950s.
He moved to the United States in 1957 and lived in Connecticut before moving to Ventura 18 years ago.
In Ventura, he was a life member and exalted ruler of Elks Lodge 1430. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Anne, of Ventura and sons Steven and Scott Burgess of Sarasota, Fla., Eric D. Burgess of Knoxville, Tenn., and Glynn Burgess of New York. He also leaves stepchildren Lynn Bristol of Schuylkill Haven, Pa., Charles Schobert of Manchester, Conn., and Jane Landberg of Oak View.
Burgess also is survived by a sister, Margorie Strickland of South Windsor, Conn., brothers Alan, Keith, Jeffrey, Roy and Raymond Burgess of Mackelsfield, England, and 19 grandchildren.
An Elks memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Chapel in Ventura.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ventura Elks Lodge’s youth activities fund and drug awareness program.
