Plumbers’ Law 2: Connect Sewer Line
YAKIMA, Wash. — Subcontractors forgot a small but significant detail when they were finishing the city’s new public works administration building last year.
The building’s sewer lines were never connected to the main line that carries waste to the treatment plant. For the past year, hundreds of feet of sewer line and several manholes have been filling up with raw sewage.
But, in mid-April, there just wasn’t any more room, and “the toilets all exploded,†said City Manager Dick Zais.
City crews pumped out the lines and discovered the sewer lines were never hooked up. The subcontractor, Ken Leingang Excavating, corrected the problem in a couple of hours.
