About 600 young people are being sought for a new job training and placement program funded by the federal government.
Youth Fair Chance Plus, which opened Friday at 8730 S. Vermont Ave., plans to offer courses in such skills as balancing a checkbook and handling bills, adult literacy and computer training. It also seeks to help participants complete their secondary education and prepare for the General Equivalency Diploma.
Those eligible must be between 17 to 30 and live in the area bounded by Florence, Vermont and Central avenues and 104th Street. Many participants will receive stipends of $50 a week while they finish school or complete vocational training over the next year.
