MAKING PRISCILLA by Al Clark (Plume: $12.95; 177 pp., illustrated paperback original). Producer Al Clark recounts the improbable saga of the outrageous Australian comedy, “The Adventures of Priscilla, the Queen of the Desert.” Clark is enough of an insider to know the inner workings of Hollywood deal-makers, but enough of an outsider to be amused by their machinations. The funniest sections of his account describe the problems of filming baroquely costumed actors in remote corners of the Australian Outback. Fans of the film will enjoy such outre details as the plans for a gown made of dozens of credit cards; copyright problems forced the film makers to scrap the dress and replace it with one made of plastic thong sandals.
