Fans at Santa Anita will be able to bet on three major out-of-town races today.
The $500,000 Blue Grass Stakes from Keeneland at Lexington, Ky., which features a third meeting between Thunder Gulch and Suave Prospect, will be shown between the first and second races at Santa Anita. Post time today will be 12:20 p.m.
Later on the card, the $750,000 Oaklawn Handicap will be simulcast from Oaklawn Park at Hot Springs, Ark. The 1 1/8-mile race will bring together Concern, Cigar, Best Pal, Urgent Request and Silver Goblin. Then, a full field will contest the $200,000 California Derby at 1 1/8 miles on the turf on the opening-day card of Golden Gate Fields’ 114-day spring-summer meeting.
The feature attraction at Santa Anita is the $100,000 San Simeon Handicap at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the grass.
Rotsaluck, who has been beaten in his last two starts on the main track, is the 8-5 favorite to bounce back in the San Simeon. In his two previous tries on the Santa Anita hillside, the 4-year-old gelding won an allowance race by seven lengths last Oct. 15, then returned three weeks later to win the Morvich Handicap by 6 1/2 lengths.
The rest of the field includes 5-2 second choice Pembroke, who is also perfect in two tries at the distance; Bengal Bay, Finder’s Fortune, Crack Regiment, Gneiss and defending champion Rapan Boy.
