World IN BRIEF : WALES : Door-to-Door DNA Search for Killer
- Share via
Police hunting the man who raped and killed a 15-year-old girl are asking men in the Cardiff area to take blood tests for DNA screening. The results will be compared to DNA--or genetic fingerprints--found in semen taken from Claire Hood, who was found dead last January. Police cannot force people to give blood samples, although under the new Criminal Justice Act a person charged with any offense can be forced to give “non-intimate” cell samples--from hair, saliva or cells in the inner cheek. Police are going door-to-door, asking about 2,000 men in the west Cardiff suburb of St. Mellons to provide the blood samples voluntarily, a police spokesman said.
