U.S. Fines Northwest Over Advertising: The Department of Transportation said Northwest Airlines agreed to pay a $90,000 fine and stop trumpeting the carrier’s allegedly false on-time performance in its advertising. The carrier did not admit or deny guilt, the agency said. The department said that Northwest had incorrectly claimed that for four years in a row it had been No. 1 in on-time performance.
