Parking Fees Don’t Fit Bill at Arts Center
- Share via
My wife and I are outraged at the cost of parking at the Orange County Performing Arts Center-South Coast Repertory complex in Costa Mesa. The charges are totally out of line for this area and amount to gouging the public. They have risen from $3 to $4 to $6 per car over the past few years.
This effectively increases the cost to see a show by a substantial percentage. $6 is aboutone-third more than I would have to pay by the hour if I parked and did business in the adjoining office buildings for 2 1/4 hours, the length of an average show.
We customers are at their mercy as there is no competition for parking anywhere in the near vicinity.
It has become so bad that I know some people who buy a movie ticket in order to park for free, then go to the South Coast Repertory or whatever. Others simply dine at a nearby hotel restaurant and take their shuttle.
It would be a wonderful public relations coup if prices came down.
