OXNARD : Amphitheater Named in Dr. Kato’s Memory
- Share via
Citing his numerous contributions to the community, Ventura County supervisors agreed Tuesday to honor a former Oxnard mayor by renaming the city’s College Park amphitheater after him.
The supervisors voted unanimously to name the county-owned amphitheater after the late Dr. Tsujio Kato, who died of a heart attack Feb. 20.
A dentist by profession, Kato was first elected to the Oxnard City Council in 1972. He served as mayor from 1976 to 1982.
Supervisor John Flynn praised Kato for his community service, particularly his role in guiding the California Strawberry Festival to national prominence. This year’s Strawberry Festival, on May 20 and 21, is dedicated to Kato’s memory.
