An intimate epic, masterfully written and directed by Poland’s Agniesza Holland from Solomon Perel’s autobiography. The 1992 film tells of the teen-age Solomon’s harrowing, sometimes darkly humorous experiences as a Polish-Jewish refugee who hides his identity only to wind up drafted into the German Army. It offers a fresh, dynamic perspective on a stirring sage of survival. With Marco Hofschneider in a memorable portrayal of Perel, who now makes his home in Israel.
