Earth Day programming won’t be limited to just April 22. Networks and cable channels are airing programs throughout the month to honor Mother Earth. Here’s a sampling:
DISCOVERY
Sunday through Thursday, the Discovery Channel premieres the miniseries Ocean Planet, which examines the ocean’s cultural, economic, political and environmental significance to the Earth. The installments are “Finite Oceans,†“The Last Hunters,†“The Healing Sea†and “The Tides of Change,†9-10 p.m.
DISNEY CHANNEL
On Earth Day: The Cropp Family Nature Album: The Sharks of Ningoloo Bay, 5 p.m.; This Island Earth, 6 p.m.; Spaceship Earth: Our Global Environment, 8:30 p.m.
KCET
Sunday: The PBS affiliate offers an environmental block: The Unfolding Story, 2 p.m.; Water, 2:30 p.m.; Logging Sibera, 3:30 p.m.; Savior of the Forest, 4:30; Talking Trash, 6 p.m.; California’s Gold . . . With Huell Howser goes to the desert, 7:30 p.m.
Monday: David Attenborough’s Natural World, 8 p.m.; Eyewitness, 8:30 p.m.
Friday: The Search for Clean Air, 10 p.m.
NBC
The “Permanent Charities Earth Walk,†a consortium of environmental agencies (including Heal the Bay, Sierra Club, Tree People and American Oceans) will be discussed April 17-19 by The Tonight Show’s Jay Leno, who serves as the event’s chairman. The walk takes place Earth Day in Los Angeles.
NICKELODEON
On Earth Day: Nick rebroadcasts its popular Nick News Special Edition Earth Day shows: The Day the Earth Threw Up, 3 p.m., and Plan It for the Planet, 3:30 p.m.
