WATTS : Meeting to Focus on Redevelopment Study
Community members are invited to attend a public meeting Monday to hear the findings and recommendations of a 12-month study focusing on rebuilding retail and commercial areas in Watts damaged during the 1992 riots and last year’s earthquake.
The meeting is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the Watts Labor Community Action Committee headquarters, 10950 S. Central Ave.
An advisory group to the city Community Redevelopment Agency will present the findings and recommendations for retail and commercial corridors including Main Street, Avalon Boulevard and Wilmington Avenue.
Since last year, the advisory group, the Watts Community Advisory Council, has worked with the CRA and Los Angeles City Councilman Rudy Svorinich Jr. to analyze social and economic conditions in the area and assess development opportunities.
The study’s recommendation are expected to focus on improving the physical character of the area, creating new retail and service-oriented businesses and generating jobs.
