HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Channel Islands’ Volley Delays Royal’s Celebration

Channel Islands High hasn’t conceded the Marmonte League title yet.

Melanio Lopez had 29 kills as the Raiders took sole possession of second place in a 10-15, 15-6, 15-13, 15-9 boys’ volleyball victory over Westlake.

Riv Amores and Paul Magsino each added 11 kills for Channel Islands (8-2, 6-2), which moved ahead of the Warriors (7-3, 5-3).

The Raiders trail first-place Royal by two games. The teams play April 28 at Royal.

Royal d. Newbury Park, 15-3, 15-8, 15-8--Dan Rizzo led the Highlanders (8-2, 8-0) with eight kills and John Baxter had 29 assists in a Marmonte League match.

Thousand Oaks d. Camarillo, 15-7, 15-4, 13-15, 15-7--David Grimm had 11 kills and Jeff Nowak eight for the Lancers (5-3, 5-3) in a Marmonte League match.

Brandon Marsh had 36 assists.

Highland d. Burroughs, 15-1, 15-5, 15-8--The Bulldogs (10-0, 10-0) won their 24th consecutive Golden League match and remained unbeaten by sweeping the Burros at Highland.

Ryan Millar had 12 kills and Brandon Kimball added 26 assists and four aces for the Bulldogs.

Alemany d. Chaminade, 17-15, 15-6, 15-7--Darin Bell and Tim Nelson each had 10 kills for the Indians (6-4, 4-4) in a Mission League match at Chaminade.

Nelson added six blocks.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Royal 10, Agoura 8--Nick Varvais and Ben Bayani swept singles play for the Highlanders (10-3, 5-3) in a Marmonte League match.

Brian Leiker and Aaron Kessler swept doubles play for the Chargers (9-3, 6-2).
