THIS WEEKEND’S PREP TOURNAMENTS : Major Softball and Baseball Events Feature Talented Teams

After a three-year hiatus, the Canyon softball tournament returns today with games at Peralta Park in Anaheim. The championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
This is the ninth Canyon tournament, but the first since 1991. The tournament dissolved after Comanche Coach Lance Eddy left the program, but Eddy returned last year and the tournament is back.
In opening games of the Canyon tournament today, one of the favorites, Corona, plays Katella at 3 p.m. Pool games continue at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, and bracket play begins Monday. The championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Other local tournaments beginning this weekend are the Woodbridge Classic at Irvine’s Harvard Park and the Westminster Lion Pride tournament at Golden West College.
The Woodbridge tournament continues April 15 with the title game scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 17. It features second-ranked Pacifica, seventh-ranked Woodbridge and 10th-ranked La Habra.
The Westminster tournament continues Monday with the championship game at 7 p.m.
Foothill, the county’s top-ranked team, No. 4 Marina and No. 9 Villa Park will play at the Righetti tournament Monday and Tuesday.
