POMONA : Woman to Be Tried in Kidnaping of Twin Baby
- Share via
A Downey woman accused of stealing an infant twin from his mother was ordered Thursday to stand trial for kidnaping.
After a preliminary hearing in Pomona Municipal Court, Judge Thomas Peterson ruled there was enough evidence for prosecutors to proceed against Joann Santos, 35.
Peterson set an April 20 pretrial hearing for Santos in Pomona Superior Court. She could be sentenced to up to 11 years in prison if convicted.
Santos, who reportedly had a miscarriage last fall, allegedly took the infant last month from a woman she had befriended months earlier.
The unharmed baby was returned to his mother, Maria Magna, a day later, after police got a call directing officers to Santos’ home.
