In Australia, Unser and His Family Let the Dolphins Do the Driving
- Share via
Al Unser Jr. and his family had a rare experience last month while in Australia. They swam with the dolphins at Sea World.
Al said that he and his wife, Shelley, lay on their stomachs in the water with their hands outstretched. The dolphins hooked onto their feet and pulled them over the water at 15 to 20 m.p.h. Later, Al dived down in the aquarium, a signal to the dolphins that he wanted to be thrown into the air.
The dolphins obliged, tossing him about 10 feet.
After watching their parents, the three Unser children--Albert, 12; Cody, 8; and Shannon, 6, jumped into the water and rode the dolphins.
“I was really amazed at how gentle the dolphins were with the girls,” Shelley said.
