COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cal Lutheran Rolls Over Azusa Pacific
Aimee Snider had two hits, including her first home run of the season, to lead the Cal Lutheran softball team to a 10-3 nonconference victory over Azusa Pacific on Thursday at Azusa.
Snider, a junior shortstop, hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. She drove in three runs for the Regals (17-6), who won their ninth in a row.
Tracy Little and Bekkah Snider each also had two hits for Cal Lutheran, which is in first place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Cal Lutheran broke a 1-1 tie with a six-run second inning. Donna Scott led off with a triple and Heather Vance drove her in with a single. Bekkah Snider singled home another run before Azusa Pacific pitchers walked five consecutive hitters, accounting for three more runs.
Heidi Stevens (7-3) pitched a seven-hitter, striking out one and walking none.
Azusa Pacific (15-12), which lost its third in a row, was led by Liz Campbell who had three hits.
BASEBALL
Oxnard 3, Mission 0--Ray Clinton pitched a four-hitter, striking out six and walking two, to lead the Condors (16-11, 5-7) to a Western State Conference victory at home. Matt Anderson had an RBI double, extending his conference leads in both categories.
Bakersfield 14, Ventura 3--Designated-hitter Richard Parra had four of 20 Renegade hits and scored four runs in the WSC rout. Rich Adams and Victor Moreno (two RBIs) each had two hits for Ventura (14-7-1, 8-4). Bakersfield is 16-7-1, 7-4-1.
Pierce 10, Santa Barbara 3--The Brahmas, who started the season 2-10, have won 12 of their past 14. Pierce (14-12, 10-2 in Western State Conference play) scored seven runs in the top of the first inning, thanks to four of eight Vaquero errors and three walks. The Brahmas had five hits in the inning.
Jeff Astgen was four for five. Cesar Martinez had three hits. Winner Jason Warren (3-3) pitched seven innings and struck out five.
Canyons 8, Cuesta 4--Kyle Lonsberry had three hits and Jeff Brown and Justin Bunch each had two RBIs for the Cougars (11-15, 7-5) in a WSC game at Cuesta.
Chaffey 8, Antelope Valley 7--Jeff Buries scored the winning run in the ninth inning for the Panthers (15-6, 11-3) on Mario Najero’s sacrifice fly to right in a Foothill Conference game at Chaffey.
Angelo Sakelarious had three hits, two RBIs and scored two runs and Todd Barnes had two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Marauders (12-11-1).
The Master’s 13, Southern California College 3--Catcher Jeff Bennett, a freshman from Newbury Park High, had three hits and three RBIs, leading Master’s (12-12) in a nonconference game at home.
Steve Rogers pitched a six-hitter for the Mustangs, striking out six and walking six. He gave up only one earned run. Matt Henzie and Jason Sauer each had two hits for Master’s.
