Mattel Settles False Advertising Charge: Toy maker Mattel Inc. has agreed to change an environment friendly claim for a children’s bath foam product, settling Federal Trade Commission false advertising charges. By claiming that Barbie Bath Blast Fashion Foam Soap contains no chlorofluorocarbons, the FTC alleged, Mattel misled consumers into thinking that the product would not harm the environment. The foam actually contains two ozone-depleting ingredients, the FTC said. The settlement agreement prohibits Mattel from making environmental claims about aerosol products that are not backed by scientific evidence. The settlement does not constitute an admission of wrongdoing by El Segundo-based Mattel.
