Antonio Arce
SCHOOL: Palmdale
SPORT: Track and field
YEAR: Senior
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Arce entered the season as the No. 1 returning 3,200-meter runner in the nation, but rainouts of two early-season meets prevented him from posting a noteworthy time until Saturday’s Pasadena Games at Occidental College. There, he won the 3,200 in a yearly nationally-leading time of 9 minutes 8.99 seconds and the 1,600 in a personal best of 4:21.66.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Arce, the 1994 State Division II cross-country champion, used an impressive kick to win both races at Occidental. He ran the final 800 of the 3,200 in 2:10.7 and the last 400 in 62.4. In the 1,600, he had splits of 2:04.6 and 57.9. “I had no choice in the (1,600,)” Arce said of his fast last lap. “I was boxed in real bad (with a lap to go).”
