Leonard Hamilton, Coach of the Year in the Big East Conference, signed a four-year contract with the University of Miami. The terms were not disclosed. Under Hamilton, the Hurricanes finished the season with a 15-13 record, 9-9 in the Big East, and played in the NIT, their first postseason tournament in 31 years. The Hurricanes were 0-18 in conference play last year.

Fresno State hasn’t hired Jerry Tarkanian yet, but the former UNLV coach already has a lofty goal for his alma mater.
“I feel I can turn (them) into a national basketball power in two years,” Tarkanian told the Las Vegas Sun.
Fresno State has had only two winning seasons in the past 10 years. The Bulldogs finished 13-15 last season, tied for seventh in the Western Athletic Conference.

Georgia Athletic Director Vince Dooley asked for and received permission to talk to Tulsa Coach Tubby Smith about the Bulldogs’ coaching vacancy. . . . Wisconsin-Green Bay Coach Dick Bennett met with his players but didn’t say if he’s heading to Wisconsin, which fired first-year coach Stan Van Gundy after a 13-14 season. . . . UNLV interim President Kenny Guinn says he expects to name a new Rebel basketball coach today or Wednesday. Possible candidates include St. Louis Coach Charlie Spoonhour, Texas Coach Tom Penders, Miami Ohio Coach Herb Sendek and former Rebel Sidney Green.
