KIDS’ MESSAGE: With the bond crisis dominating...

KIDS’ MESSAGE: With the bond crisis dominating events, the Proposition 187 debate has temporarily taken a back seat. But not with Actores de Santa Ana. The Latino acting troupe performs “Prop 187--Save Our State†for three shows this weekend at the United Method Church in Santa Ana. The main characters: “Pilgrim Kid†and “Kid Mexico.†The political satire comes between rounds of their boxing match. A subtext message to the audience comes from “Kid Mexicoâ€: “Don’t be a statistic. Whatever happens in this fight, you stay in school.â€

NO EASY TIME: The AIDS-related death Sunday of rap singer Eazy-E (Eric Wright) has moved co-workers at KKBT, the Los Angeles radio station where he co-hosted a Saturday night show, to do something positive. As a result, the station’s Aug. 13 all-day rap music concert at Irvine Meadows will benefit AIDS-related causes. . . . Station general manager Craig Wilbraham says it’s the first time the station has made AIDS such a priority.

ON THE BEAT: He’s not a household name now, but Fox TV hopes he will be--with a chance to make Orange County the butt of a few more national jokes. Comedian Carlos Mencia has the lead role in a Fox sitcom--only a pilot project right now--called “Carlos.†. . . Fox publicity says it would be about a Latino cop who is “a fish out of water†when he goes to work in Orange County. . . . Says a spokeswoman: “He’s the only Latino in the building not locked in a holding cell. It’s kind of a ‘Barney Miller’ show with an ensemble cast.â€

GOLF QUEST: Here’s a goal any golfer would envy: Sam Dickinson of Dove Canyon Country Club here hopes to play golf at 46 courses that have hosted the U.S. Open. Monday, he played his first, Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades. . . . His goal is to finish June 12, his 45th birthday, at this year’s site of the 100th U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in New York. Says Dickinson, an airline pilot: “I’m having fun with it.â€
