Issues coming up Newport Beach City Council meeting When: Today, 7 p.m. Where: 3300 Newport Blvd. What: The City Council will consider a proposal to build a tire reef off the coastline as well as discuss a proposed consolidation of several city departments. Another item on the agenda deals with a contract for a floating cover for the Big Canyon Reservoir. The council will also look at several major road improvements, including construction at the Newport Boulevard/West Coast Highway interchange and a widening project on MacArthur Boulevard. Cypress City Council meeting When: Today, 7:30 p.m. Where: City Hall, 5275 Orange Ave. What: The council is scheduled to vote on a request from the county to support placing a half-cent sales tax increase on the ballot. The money would be used to help the county dig itself out of the financial crisis. The city will consider passing a resolution on the issue. Information: (714) 229-6688
Fullerton School board meeting When: Tuesday, 7 p.m. Where: District office, 1401 W. Valencia Drive What: The school board will hold a public hearing on the district’s teachers union contract proposal and consider approving a brochure to help recruit candidates for the job of superintendent. Irvine City Council meeting When: Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. Where: One Civic Center Plaza What: Council members will review the findings of an independent audit covering the actions of city officials in relation to the Orange County investment pool. Their discussion will be held in closed session because of concerns over potential litigation. Council members will decide how much of the report can be made public at this time. The council will also consider three proposed bypass routes to Newport Coast Drive, intended to provide a toll-free alternative to a section of the road that is planned to become part of the San Joaquin Hills toll road.
